Troubleshooting Slow Internet

Common causes of slow internet in office environments and steps you can take before calling support.

Basic Checks

Test speed at speedtest.net from a wired connection. If wired speed is normal but Wi-Fi is slow, the issue is wireless. Check if the problem affects all users or just one — a single-user issue often points to their device.

Check for Bandwidth Hogs

Large file uploads/downloads, cloud backups running during business hours, or unauthorized streaming can saturate your connection. Check with your team and temporarily pause any large transfers to test.

Restart Network Equipment

Power cycle your modem and main switch (unplug for 30 seconds, then reconnect). Wait 3-5 minutes for full reconnection. This resolves many intermittent issues caused by memory leaks or state table overflow.

When to Call Support

If speeds remain slow after basic troubleshooting, or if you notice packet loss or high latency, submit a ticket. Include your speedtest results, the number of affected users, and when the issue started.
