Site Survey Checklist
Evaluate site readiness before any IT infrastructure project — pathways, power, telecom, HVAC, and code compliance in one comprehensive checklist.
Pre-Installation Site Assessment
Mark each item pass, fail, or N/A to generate a site readiness report with photo documentation reminders.
Cable Pathway Access
Above-ceiling plenum or cable tray is accessible and has capacity for new runs
Conduit Availability
Existing conduit has spare capacity or new conduit paths are identified
Core Drill Locations
Floor/wall penetration points identified and approved for vertical risers
Telecom Room Space
MDF/IDF rooms have floor space, wall space, and cooling for new equipment
Rack Space
Existing racks have available U space or new rack locations identified
Ceiling Height
Ceiling height documented — minimum clearance for cable tray and AP mounting
Check all 25 items to generate your report
Site Survey Best Practices
Make the most of your pre-installation walk-through.
Bring a Camera
Document every telecom room, pathway, and proposed equipment location. Photos save return trips.
Check Above the Ceiling
Lift tiles to verify plenum space, existing cable runs, fire stopping, and HVAC ductwork.
Verify Power at Racks
Confirm dedicated circuits and measure available amperage before specifying UPS and PoE switches.
Map Existing Cabling
Test and document existing cable plant. Cat5e may be reusable; Cat3 must be replaced.
Talk to Facilities
Building managers know about asbestos, lease restrictions, and upcoming renovations you need to plan around.
Survey During Business Hours
See actual occupancy, lighting, and noise levels — critical for camera and AV system planning.
