Multi-Mode Fiber Systems
Cost-effective multi-mode fiber for data center interconnects, SAN storage links, and high-speed LAN backbones within buildings.
Overview
Multi-mode fiber (50/125 μm) delivers high-speed connectivity at shorter distances — ideal for data center interconnects, SAN fabrics, and intra-building backbones. Summit DNC installs OM3 (10G at 300 m), OM4 (10G at 400 m), and OM5 (wideband for SWDM and 100G) fiber systems. Multi-mode uses lower-cost VCSEL-based transceivers, making it the preferred choice for high-port-count deployments where distances stay under 500 meters.
Key Benefits
- Lower transceiver cost than single-mode (VCSEL vs. laser)
- Supports 10G, 25G, 40G, and 100G with proper optics
- Pre-terminated trunk cables reduce installation time 50%+
- MPO/MTP connectors enable high-density 12/24-fiber connections
- OM5 supports SWDM for 100G over 150 m on a single fiber pair
- Excellent choice for intra-building distances under 500 m
